Trace/s: Family History Research and the Legacy of Slavery in Brooklyn

The exhibition "Trace/s" explores Brooklyn's history of slavery through a combination of artwork, historical records, and the contributions of Black genealogy researchers. While there are few firsthand accounts from enslaved individuals, primary source materials offer valuable insights into their experiences. The exhibition prompts reflection on the impact of slavery on Brooklyn and its residents. In support of this, the Center for Brooklyn History will host free programs, including workshops, film screenings on reparations, and panel discussions, aiming to honor ancestors and deepen community understanding of both the past and the present.
